She Writes Good

Words Between Coasts (https://www.wordsbetweencoasts.com/) is a site created by cousins who live on opposite coasts of the United States. They regularly accept guest posts for a variety of topics including activism, creative writing, inspiration, wellness, and a monthly message series.

In March, I was invited to submit to their monthly message series. It was a fun exercise in creative writing. I was given the choice of several prompts to start the article. I chose the prompt, “We have to go now” she (he) said, checking over her (his) shoulder for what felt like the millionth time.” It was kismet in a way, as my family was moving from Northern California to California’s central coast and I needed an outlet to work through some of my feelings. I was (and still am) quite sad to leave the home we’d built for nearly thirteen years, but we were given the opportunity to move closer to my parents. The decision was challenging since it wasn’t a mandatory job transfer, my parents are in relatively good health for their age, and we were comfortable with where we were. However, we felt ourselves standing on the precipice of major change and wanted to make the move before we were shoved off the cliff. I will go into further detail in a later article.
